    Liposuction Surgery

What is liposuction? What is Liposculpture?

Liposuction (fat suction) has revolutionised body contour surgery in recent years and is now an approved and highly sought after method of sharpening the body with reduction in amount of fatty tissue.

Liposuction can eliminate or lessen fatty deposits (resistant spot fat) in problem areas of the body. These include the abdomen, outer hips, upper buttocks, loins and lower outer chest fold, thighs, inner knees, calves, inner ankles, upper arms, jowls, under chin and neck.  It can be performed on several areas of the body at the same time, the number of areas, depending on the amount to be removed.

Another factor which is taken into consideration in determining the suitability of individual is the degree of normal skin elasticity; generally in older or sun damaged, over stretched skin, is less than average.

Liposuction is a procedure that targets and reduces  unsightly fat bulges, that do not respond to usual weight-loss methods. Traditional liposuction is the bulk removal of fat, with concentration on the amount, rather than improving the figure. This kind of surgery is more a procedure of the past.

Liposculpture follows the concept, of removing fat, for the purpose of contouring the body, by treating the problem areas, thereby giving it a better shape. Liposculpture effectively sculpts and re-contours various areas of the body.

Liposculpture is a procedure that requires a lot of artistry and experience. The purpose of the procedure is to contour the body (by shaping and sculpting). When considering liposculpture, it is very important to see a surgeon who is able to see the 3 dimensional you, and tailor make the procedure to your requirements to achieve the most aesthetically pleasing and satisfactory results.

Depending on the amount of fat removal and method of surgery, the surgeon will recommend performing it in one or more sessions with minimum 6 weeks to three months interval between the sessions.

    Types of Liposuction

Standard liposuction : Mechanical vacuum suction or syringe assisted.

Ultrasonic Liposuction : (UAL) Ultrasound assisted liposuction, uses a special cannula that emits an ultra-sonic wave, through the cannula’s tip , that only affects (breaks down) the fat cells. This breaking down makes them easier to remove. The advantages are lesser blood loss, lesser bruising and slightly better skin retraction than traditional liposuction.

Vaser assisted liposuction : Vaser assisted liposuction (VAL) uses lower energy, than ultrasound (which can sometimes cause blister on the skin) . This allows the surgeon to work closer to the skin surface thereby affording better sculpting, with comparatively lesser risks of burn wounds.
Another advantage of vaser , is that it selectively breaks up the fat leaving behind, nerve cells, blood vessels and connective tissue. This emulsification of fat, rather than it being torn free, means that more can be extracted easily with reduced trauma. This is turn leads to lesser downtime and discomfort.

Power assisted lipo (PAL) : uses a motorised cannula to assist in breaking up fatty tissue for removal by suction. This requires lesser physical effort by the surgeon, allowing larger amounts to be removed in one procedure.
