A man in mid thirties with a body weight of 97 kg was smoking cigarettes for nearly 10 years. His health started deteriorating with weight increase, cholesterol problem, body pain, loss of energy, concentration and drive, rise of blood pressure and hormonal imbalancing. On testing of his Vo2 max, it was found that he had sub-optimal cardio-respiratory fitness – VO2 max score of 8.6 and METS of 2.5, both of them very low.

    BEFORE:

He was counseled on cessation of tobacco considering the effects of tobacco on deterioration of health conditions and the consequential health risks. He was put on lifestyle therapy with diet regulation, exercise, stress management and supplementation with neutraceuticals and hormone optimization. After 6 months, his VO2 max testing was repeated. He showed very good response – VO2 max increased to 17.4 and METS to 5.0 – doubling of the biomarkers compared to baseline values.

    Obesity reversal

    Case 1

An obese  woman of 57 years weighing 121.5 kg, married having two children, with breathlessness on exertion and hypertension joined Age Management Programme in December 2012. Her health goal was to reduce weight, feel functionally fit and healthy. The DEXA scan revealed a fat mass of 58% and BMI was 49.3. She has been a classical case of Metabolic syndrome with pre-diabetic condition, excess fat mass, altered lipid profile and high BP due to progressive weight gain and morbid obesity. She had hormone imbalance.

She was put on weight reducing regimen with ketogenic diet, therapeutic exercise practices, stress management, nutritional supplementation and optimization with bio-identical hormones. Her biomarkers were periodically assessed. In March 2014, her weight reached a level of 90 kg with an achievement of 31.5 kg reduction in 15 months and completely relieved of constitutional symptoms of breathlessness, mobility restriction and high BP and became euglycaemic.

    Case 2

An obese girl of 19 years of age, unmarried, weighing 84 kg, with symptoms of easy fatigability, low concentration, sleep disorders and depression joined Age Management Programme in June 2012. Her health goal was to reduce weight, improve energy levels and feel functionally fit with improved well being. The DEXA scan revealed a fat mass of 56.4% and biomarkers analysis revealed early impaired glucose metabolism, altered lipid profile, hormonal imbalance and increased level of silent low grade inflammation.

She was put on weight reducing regimen with ketogenic diet, therapeutic exercise practices, stress management, nutritional supplementation and optimization with bio-identical hormones. Her biomarkers were periodically assessed. In December 2013, her weight reached a level of 77.2 kg. Since she wanted to lose her fat mass further, she opted for liposuction and it was done in April 2014. She continued her Age Management Programme after the liposuction. In August 2014, her weight reached a level of 68 kg. Thus, with a combined programme of Age Management and Liposuction procedure, she lost weight to reach a level of 68 kg in Aug 2014 from the level of 84 kg in June 2012 – a reduction of 16 kg in 2 years.
